The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon was formed by the Colorado River 17 million years ago.  It is 446 kilometers long, 29 kilometers wide and 1800 meters deep.  The Colorado River still flows at the bottom of the canyon.
The Grand Canyon was amazing, it was a bit scarey leaning over the edge looking at the bottom because it was so far down.  The Grand Canyon isn't just one canyon, it is made up of lots of canyons joining up to the big canyon.  Lots of animals live in the canyons - big horn ewe, muskrats, beavers, antelope squirrels, raccoons, bobcats, mountain lions, california condor, six types of rattlesnakes and lots more.
The  Grand Canyon was first settled by the Native Americans.  The Pueblo considered it a holy site and would make pilgrimages to the Canyon.  It is an amazing sight, it's so hard to take in how big it really is, it was overwhelming.
On the way out of the Grand Canyon we spotted some deer, they were the first deer that we have seen on our trip.  They seemed gentle and graceful and were really aware of what was around them.  They were in a small herd and had two babies with them.  The Grand Canyon National Park was magnificent!
