Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. is a really pretty city especially with the Washington Monument (The Needle) behind the Reflection Pool and the Lincoln Memorial infront.  The Reflection Pool was a lot bigger than I expected, at one end it was covered in ice because it's cold in the middle of winter.  The Washington Monument was placed there to honour the first president of the United States, George Washington.
This monument is of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, he is one of the most famous presidents.  He is so well known because he was President during the Civil War, he abolished slavery and reunited the country.  The  Gettysburg Address given by Abraham Lincoln is one of the most well known and famous speeches in the world.  His message was that all men are created equal and should be treated as such.  Sadly he was assassinated after serving only four years as president.
We  also visited the White House where President Barack Obama lives and works.  The White House is the official residence of the serving president at the time.  There was a button on the front gate that said "Welcome to the Whitehouse", we pressed the button a few times hoping that the president would let us in.......
