San Antonio and The Alamo - Texas

In Texas we stayed in San Antonio in a hotel right on the River Walk.  The River walk is a series of channels running through the city, with paths on either side.  There are boats, water taxis, cafes, shops and hotels along the river. It's a beautiful place.
There were lots of ducks swimming in the channels and heaps of birds in the trees. It was a nice day because it was lovely and warm and it wasn't busy.  San Antonio is near the border of Mexico so the town is kind of a mexican styled city.  We went to Market Square which is Mexican Market that sold lots of jewellery, pots, iron wood carvings, onyx, Mexican glass and fossils.  Drew bought a Megaledon tooth found in South Carolina and I bought a bear made out of honey-stone from Mexico.

Look at who we bumped into!!!!!

After we walked around the river we went to The Alamo.  The  Battle of the Alamo is a famous battle because a small amount of Texans defended the Alamo Mission from a huge amount of Mexicans for 13 days before the Texans were defeated.  All of the Texans died, among them was Davey Crockett (the guy in the raccoon hat).  The Texans were fighting for their independence from Mexico.  A lot of the Alamo Mission is still standing and inside is a museum showing a rare gun collection (many of the first fire arms ever made), old coins, a mini hospital and canons.  Mexicans and Texans all live together in San Antonio happily today.
This line is where William B Travis the commander defending the Alamo drew a line in the sand with his sword and asked those willing to remain and defend the Alamo to their deaths to step across.  It is believed that this is where the saying "to step across the line" came from.  Hannah
